The spirit of giving and sharing is always prevalent during the Christmas season; smiles, hugs, laughter…all signs that the season has begun. Can you imagine a better season to gather together; for the past and present to mingle, to share stories and adventures? Envision a night filled with soft candlelight, the wonderful aromas of delectable foods, music to get your feet moving and the sounds of seventy seven voices filling the air.
This was the setting of our 2009 Charity League Christmas Gala. Upon entering, you are surrounded by soft playing Christmas music, a welcoming buffet of mouth watering delights, tables adorned in black and silver and soft crimson rose petals. Balloons covered the dance floor as their streamers dangled above your head.
The festivities began with chatter, laughs, meeting new friends, and greeting old friends. As the smells of our dinner drew us in, one by one, we eventually made our way through the buffet. Cornish hens, a carving station and salmon greeted us, and a delicious spread of key lime pies, chocolate cakes and cookies ended our food journey.
The music changes from soft Christmas music to sounds that bring the crowd to the dance floor. The Electric Slide, the Macarena, Cha-Cha Slide, shag music started off the dancing. Slow moving, romantic songs brought couples onto the dance floor. As the night continued, circles were formed and dance lines soon followed. Laughter carried throughout the ball room and camera flashes were in abundance. Friends gathered for pictures around the Christmas trees; candid shots as they showed off their dancing skills.
As the last dance ended, we regretfully left the dance floor, sad that our evening was coming to a close. We gathered our coats, said our goodbyes and made our way out into the night. Looking up into the clear sky, stars shining bright, we were reminded that our blessings are as abundant as that star filled sky. Thankful to have enjoyed an evening shared with friends, old and new.
Thank you for sharing part of your Christmas season with us.
