The Charity League ?Carnival of the Animals? is just about to finish up with their performances this year. Each fall, the Carnival Team travels to 15 area schools to perform for first graders. The Charity League has been involved in this placement for 21 years.

The idea was developed by Camille St.- Sean in 1886 as an entertainment for his dinner guests. The program has since developed into an art education tool. There are a variety of characters including: lions, chickens, a dancing elephant, turtles, a mermaid, a horse, a kookoo bird, and piano players.

The characters are introduced through the music, and students are encouraged to notice changes in the tempo and mood of the music with each character. Current and past team members talk about what a rewarding placement this is each year. The practices and performances can be time consuming, but definitely worth it.

Tena Bullins, Carnival Chair appreciates the time and effort that the team puts in, and she stated that it is nice to have alternates to fill in for emergencies. This year there are 8 league members on the Carnival team and 4 alternates. We would like to extend a special thanks to Sustainer, Ruth Anne Collins for helping out this year.
