In September, 2005, the Carnival of the Animals kicked off its first performance of the new school year!  This program, which focuses on music appreciation, is always a big hit with the first-graders of Martinsville and Henry County, where the Charity League has been performing for many years.
The program features fifteen musical numbers and each time the music changes, a new animal enters the stage to correspond with the new music.  For instance, galloping sounds welcome our horse onto the stage while slow music signals the very slow race of the turtles!  At the end of each program, our actives entertain questions from the audience about such things as how the costumes are made and how our actors change costumes so fast!
Recent polls show that the children favor the Swan, which is the last animal to come out in the show, with the Kangaroo a close second favorite.  The program is also a big hit with the school systems’ teachers and principals who appreciate the Charity League’s dedication given that most of the area’s schools no longer offer music courses.
