In addition to connecting families to appropriate services with partners, it provides direct services such as:

• My Child and Me Classes (2 classes per month)

• Parenting Classes which provide parents with information on topics such as nutrition, finances, literacy, child development and health issues. (2 classes every other month)

• Super Kid Saturday (2 classes every month)

• Ages and Stages Developmental Assessments which aids in early detection of any potential learning or behavioral problems. (as needed – by appointment)

• Free eye exams (2 per month)

• Monthly Autism in Action support group

• Partnership for People with Disabilities training to assist parents of children with disabilities in navigating health insurance.

Our committee provides volunteer support for 4 – 6 classes per month. We also have volunteered to take the training for the Developmental Assessment tests which should happen by spring.  The Starting Place is a very rewarding placement.  The parents and children who take advantage of these classes receive huge benefits and lots of information that will help them throughout their childhood. The Starting Place provides excellent resources on everything from nutrition information and health insurance to help for autistic children. The Starting Place relies heavily on the financial support and volunteer hours from our organization.
